Leading smartphone manufacturers worldwide from 2019 - 2023
Updated by: Ryan Douglas, Sep 19, 2024
Between 2019 and 2023, 537 manufacturers submitted a smartphone device to the FCC for approval to sell to the US market. Samsung and Motorola have been working away with 207 and 197 different phones submitted in the past five years, respectively.
New product lines for Samsung
With the introduction of the Galaxy Z series of high-end foldable phones, Samsung has grown its smartphone portfolio to 7 known product lines—each of those with a different purpose and probably containing more than one FCC ID. 207 different devices submitted over the past five years can likely mean an increase in manufacturing capacity and substantial investment in product development.
Surprised by Motorolla
Motorolla Mobility, aka Motorolla, a subsidiary of Lenovo, has been making “phones” for a long time. In 2020, they released 20 different lines of smartphones followed by 16 in 2021.
Apple is efficient
Apple is the clear market leader despite ranking outside the top ten in device submission. Out-selling and shipping the competition with less types of physical devices shows efficient capital expenditure and ROI for the business.
