How to Lookup Any Electronic Product by FCC ID

FCC IDs are required to be displayed on almost all electronic devices that are compliant with FCC specifications. If you go down to your local electronics store or just take a closer look at any wireless product laying around your home, you will see these certification IDs and marks. With these IDs, you can find information about a product's features, supported radio frequencies, and more.

Where to Find a Device’s FCC ID

FCC IDs and other certification marks are typically displayed on a dedicated label somewhere on the housing of the product. This allows a user to quickly identify a device and make sure it is not out of compliance. On these product labels, a device's FCC ID is usually prefixed by the label “FCC ID:'" + the product's dedicated FCC ID.

If the device is mostly a digital screen (e.g smartphones, tablets, etc), the FCC allows for the FCC ID and other information to be available to the user digitally. A user can find FCC IDs and other certification information in the settings of their device.

How to Search Products by FCC ID

There are a few different ways someone can look up information on a particular FCC ID.

Let’s look into each of them:

Use Fcc.gov

Go straight to the source itself, fcc.gov to lookup an electronic device by its ID. The site is a little hard to use but once you run a few searches it can be a straightforward way of getting that ID’s data and reports.

FCC ID Search Engines

Since the fcc.gov site can be overwhelming for some users, other websites that offer an improved design and user experience have been created. These sites use the FCC API and other interfaces to search the FCC database.

Fcc Insights is one of these product/FCC ID search engines. We gather FCC ID reports, frequency, and product information directly from the fcc website so that users can easily digest and compare the features of various IDs.

What to Search For

Both Fcc.gov and Fcc Insights offer information on FCC IDs and the companies that they are granted to. Fcc Insights offers a unique search fcc id experience that lets a user filter by more than just an FCC ID or code. Here are a few different methods by which a user can search Fcc Insights:

Search an FCC ID

Enter a device's FCC ID (e.g 2DZLS211029, LKD1) into the search bar. If a record exists for that ID, you will be automatically redirected to that specific products page where you can find test reports, photos, and other various product feature information.

Search a Company Name

Type in a company name (e.g Apple, Google, Disney - yeah they have some IDs), and the site will search our database for any matching companies and display the results. A user can click into any company result and be redirected to that company's page.

The company page lists all known FCC IDs/products registered to that grantee, the number of IDs and some basic business information. From the company page, a user can also go into any product page of the company’s listed IDs.

Search a Product Type

Only Fcc Insights offers the ability to search by a particular product type. If you were interested in ‘smart watches’ or ‘smartphones’, you can easily enter that into the Fcc Insights search bar and the IDs with a product description containing the search term will be shown.

Searching by product type makes it easy for users to quickly identify products in a category to gauge the market and competition. If a user did not know a product's FCC ID, they could use the product type search to find it.

What to do if you Don’t Know or Can’t Find a Device FCC ID

Let’s say you have a device and want to know what radio frequencies it supports or you want to look at internal photos of it. Maybe you don’t physically have this device in hand or you see that it once had an FCC ID label, but it is now torn off. How do you search for it?

First off, it’s important to remember that not all devices have an FCC ID. Devices that use a radio module that is already certified with its own FCC ID don’t necessarily have their own ID. These types of devices won’t have their own FCC ID printed on the product label. For more information about this and FCC IDs, see: What is an FCC ID?

If you know the device has an FCC ID and you just don’t know it, try searching by product type or company name. This will let you narrow down the field of products. Fcc Insights makes it easy to find a device made by a certain company.
